Statement from Ward Sproat on Yucca Mountain
Director of the Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management

We appreciate Congress’s bipartisan vote this afternoon in support of the President’s FY2008 funding request for a permanent repository at Yucca Mountain, Nevada.  Yucca Mountain is critical to the nation’s current and future energy and national security needs.  We are moving forward to submit a credible and defensible License Application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission no later than June 30, 2008 and full funding for the FY2008 request will help us achieve this important mission.  I look forward to working with Congress to advance the opening of the nation’s first geologic repository for spent nuclear fuel and high level radioactive waste.
