Appreciate teacher Judith:

We, at American Hispanic Schools have a kind of pre- ASE program based in the E.F.F.(search at NIFL) standards, about basic sckills: materials include a "Wheel" and simple and extended material for work readniness.

Copy these materials in English and in Spanish;
Tell your students about the same latin origin of English an Spanish vocabulary and direct them to read every word in the 2 languages to verify how easy is to understand those words meaning.
After that, explain about similarity of the grammar, though subjects like VERBS: present, past andf future times.

WHO,WHAT,WHOSE, HOW, ETC.
GERUNDS AND INFINITIVES / AUXILIARY VERBS / PASSIVE SENTENCES / ADJETIVE CLAUSES / COUNT NOUNS and ARTICLES / NOUN CLAUSES/
USING WISH / IF / IRREGULAR VERBS / CAPITALIZATION / PREPOSITION COMBINATIONS /

After EVERY EACH CLASS , every studend mus HAND write a short paragraph in English and in Spanish at a white paper.

These steps are complemented with indiduals's READING.

YOU CAN. Go ahead. Adult Literacy is a priority in our nation and a human right.

Best regards

Hello, all,

In considering a new project: working short-term ( once or twice a week for
1 hour for 6 weeks) with a group of 10-15 maintenance-level employees who
are largely Hispanic, and who have between no and very modest levels of
American English skills, are there any web sources that would be helpful and
that you might recommend.

The overarching goal of the project would be to provide primarily work and
also life "survival" language that will enable the participants to address
their work environment literacy requirements (conversation with tenants,
writing out work orders, reading basic information about their jobs, etc.)

I am almost overwhelmed by all of the resources available, and wonder if
someone can point me to something that is comprehensive, but fairly simple
in its orientation, with clear, simple, resources.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All best,

Judith Peyton Sinclair, PhD
