Hall Statement on Barack Obama Being Formally Declared President
Thursday, January 8, 2009
Washington, DC – On Thursday, January 8, the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate convened for a joint session of Congress to count November's Electoral College votes and formally certify former U.S. Sen. Barack Obama as the next President of the United States.

U.S. Rep. John Hall (D-NY19) participated in the joint session and issued the following statement:

"Today, the United States Congress gathered for an event of great historic significance. By action of the joint session of Congress, the will of the American people was codified to formally declare Barack Obama as our 44th President. I feel honored and humbled to have been part of this peaceful democratic transition of power, and to represent the citizens of 19th district on the eve of a new chapter in our history. We are confronted by momentous challenges that will demand much of our citizens and our leaders. However, we are also presented with a unique opportunity to change course. In this spirit, I look forward to working with President Obama and my fellow Members of Congress to revitalize our economy and strengthen our standing abroad."
