Germany’s INTERPOL Vice-President for Europe visits General Secretariat for review of law enforcement programmes and tools

A visit to INTERPOL by Germany’s Vice-President of the Bundeskriminalamt (BKA) Federal Criminal Police, Prof. Juergen Stock, who is INTERPOL Vice-President for Europe, included meetings with INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble and other senior staff for a review of the world police organization’s collaborative activities, tools and services amongst its 187 member countries.

Prof. Stock (pictured centre) and his delegation were also updated on the Organization’s Global Security Initiative (GSI) – INTERPOL’s platform for 21st century law enforcement focusing on establishing strategic global partnerships – as well as progress achieved by OASIS, INTERPOL’s Operational Assistance, Services and Infrastructure Support project in Africa.

Launched in 2008 with funding from Germany, OASIS aims to enhance the capacity of INTERPOL member countries in Africa to address crime threats nationally, regionally and globally. The project will eventually be rolled out to other regions of the world.


Uruguay's arrest of Colombian pyramid scheme suspect demonstrates power of INTERPOL

Lyon, France – INTERPOL has commended the work of police officers in Uruguay following their arrest of a Colombian national accused of involvement in defrauding thousands of investors out of millions of dollars.

Joanne Ivette León Bermúdez was arrested in Montevideo on 13 January following close co-ordination between INTERPOL’s National Central Bureaus (NCBs) in Montevideo and Bogota, and with INTERPOL’s Command and Co-ordination Centre at its General Secretariat headquarters in Lyon.

Head of UN Police Peacekeeping visits INTERPOL to strengthen mutual co-operation

LYON, France – Identifying methods to enhance co-operation between the United Nations Department for Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) and INTERPOL topped the agenda during a visit today to INTERPOL’s General Secretariat by the UN’s Police Advisor, Mr Andrew Hughes.

A key issue during a series of meetings between Mr Hughes, INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble and senior INTERPOL staff was identifying areas for collaboration and mutual support in combating transnational organized crime, and in particular drug trafficking in West Africa.
