Although
governments, multilateral agencies and NGOs have increasingly
recognized the need to develop sustainable conservation finance
mechanisms and have pioneered many mechanisms that dedicate
long-term funding for environmental protection, these efforts
have not achieved the scale of impact required to meet the
global conservation funding challenge.

The CFA is a collaborative effort to promote sufficient
and sustainable funding for biodiversity conservation
worldwide.
|
The Conservation Finance Alliance (CFA) was created to
catalyze increased and sustainable public and private
financing for biodiversity conservation to support
the effective implementation of global commitments
to conservation.
The CFA was established
in February 2002 in order to encourage and enhance
collaboration among institutions and organizations
involved in the sustainable financing of biodiversity
conservation. CFA membership has been growing with
the addition now of FUNBIO and Chemonics
International, as a first-year observer (see
the
Letter
of Intent institutions need to sign to join the
CFA). Other members include
PriceWaterhouseCoopers and the
Conservation Development
Centre, as well
as many others! See the fully updated list of
CFA members. |

Statement of
Purpose
|
This website, www.conservationfinance.org,
will be the home of the CFA so keep checking back as we make
updates to the site on a regular basis. One of our recent
developments is the formation of the Business
Planning Committee. We have started to post organizational
business plans on this page,
and have just added the business plan for the
Uganda
Wildlife Education Centre!
Message from the CFA
We
are pleased to announce that
FUNBIO, the Brazilian Biodiversity Fund, has
joined the CFA. FUNBIO was founded in 1995 to
complement governmental action to conserve and
sustainably use Brazil's biological diversity,
in accordance with the Convention on Biological
Diversity (CBD), and the National Biological
Biodiversity Program (Pronabio). FUNBIO
provides financial and material support to
initiatives related to conservation and
sustainable use of biodiversity resources in
Brazil. We are hopeful that with the addition of
a South American national trust fund, the CFA
will be able to reach an even-larger audience.
Welcome FUNBIO!
