This small but significant
work was painted by Alice Dinneen ca.1935 after the artist had studied native
and exotic plant specimens at the Federal Agricultural Experiment Station
in Puerto Rico. Dinneen was employed by Treasury's Public Works of Art Project,
Relief Art Project, and the Section of Fine Arts. As part of her involvement
in the Treasury-sponsored art programs, her work was shown in the National
Traveling Exhibition of 1935. In addition to her easel works, Dinneen executed
a number of murals including one for the Labor Department.
