About Us
Enterprise Units
The Enterprise Program is an initiative started in 1997 by the
Pacific Southwest Region and Research Station (Region 5) of the
Forest Service to “experiment” with
developing internal enterprise businesses creating an alternative
organizational model that emulates a market environment. This program
was designed to unleash the creativity of Forest Service (FS) employees
by allowing them to develop internal entrepreneurial “businesses” that
are focused on three things while making government “work
better and cost less”. They are: a) promoting the Forest
Service mission; b) applying business functions to government activities;
and c) improving accountability.
The Enterprise Program is increasing efficiency of operations
within the Agency and enhancing the work environment for employees,
resulting in improved service to the public and increased quality
of public land management. As the Agency continues to downsize.
Enterprise employees provide skills and experience that is in short
supply and becoming less available over time. The Enterprise Program
goal supplements and supports the current workforce to accomplish
Regional and National priorities.
All Enterprise Units are organizationally assigned to the Washington Office, Business Operations. The enterprisers and their clients are located throughout the
United States and beyond.
