Dear List members: the following post is from Tina Luffman.

Hi NIFL listserv members,

I use the TABE for state and national reporting purposes. Recently I have
noticed a lot of students testing out of range and getting stuck taking
three TABES, having to move to the "8" series to get a valid score. So far I
have been able to get a valid score through this method. I can see where a
program could be tempted to "fudge" a score on a student when the student is
frustrated over being asked to take their third Reading TABE, for example.
Is there any way that the developers of the TABE can make the gap lesser
between their book levels or widen the white area of valid scores so we
don't end up in this situation? Perhaps I am asking the wrong audience.

Thanks,

Tina
