This appears appropriate on the surface for volunteer tutors. Depending
on how they are going to use the information, it might be a good idea to
clarify that GLE used this way does not necessarily mean that a student
is reading on grade level. Each state seems to interpret what Grade
level means in academic areas. What these NRS levels mean to me is that
the student being assessed with the adult ed assessment has been
correlated to the National Reporting System. Actual cognitive skill
levels for that person may not necessarily be at those grade levels. I
believe the DOL likes to see these GLE's. I think it depends on how you
are going to have the volunteers use this information.

Hello all,

I am needing to communicate "grade level equivalency" categories with
adult
literacy volunteer tutors and would like to gather opinions on how to
best
do this. My first thought was to use the already established NRS
categories, which are:

Beginning Literacy (0-1.9 grade level)
Beginning ABE (2-3.9)
Low Intermediate ABE (4-5.9)
High Intermediate ABE (6-8.9)
Low Advanced ASE (9-10.9)
High Advanced ASE (11-12.9)

What do you think? Any better ideas out there??? Thanks in advance for
sharing your thoughts.
