Telemarketing Review--Comment. FTC file no. P994414

Telemarketing is intrusive, offensive, and completely unnecessary. Why should some merchant decide when and how I'll do my shopping? If I want to buy something, I'll go to the store or order from catalog. I find particularly annoying those telemarketers who ask if I received their brochure, catalog, mailing, etc. (Yes, received, reviewed, and pitched. Not interested.) I don't need them calling while I'm trying to fix dinner to ask if I won't reconsider. The answer is always no, but the phone call alone is an unwelcome interruption.

I purchased the "black dot" listing from the telephone company two years ago. While it may have cut down some, it has not caused total cessation of these calls. A method of enforcing the existing statute is necessary.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
