Sessions may be hands-on practice or demonstrations, if facilities are not available.

Some examples of activities eligible for funding are:

  • Training health professionals, public library staff, health sciences librarians, community-based organizations, health clinics or health consumers to search PubMed, MedlinePlus, ClinicalTrials.gov, TOXNET (including LactMed, Household Products Database, ChemIDplus, Hazardous Substances Data Bank), ToxMystery, or Tox Town.
  • Training unaffiliated health professionals or groups to use PubMed, TOXNET, WISER and other NLM databases or Web sites, and explaining to them how to establish a partnership with a library to obtain full-text articles.
  • Training unaffiliated health professionals or groups to use new technology, such as mobile technology, to access and store useful health information.
  • Training staff of organizations providing consumers with health information to conduct the reference interview, understand basic medical terminology, and obtain the full text of articles not available in their collection.
  • Training groups of consumers to locate good sources of health information on the Internet.

Up to $500 is available for costs associated with training. Training award applications are accepted continuously.
