Large diameter bits are used to drill "Big Holes" at the Nevada Test Site. Big holes measure from 36 to 144 inches in diameter with depths from a 500 to 5,000 feet.Above the bit are massive steel collars measuring just a few inches less than the bit and weighing up to 450,000 lbs. |
