This equipment at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Nevada Test Site is capable of augering soil down to a depth of 150 feet. Here it is suspended from a 150 ton crane.The rotary auger is driven by two separate motors suspended from the raised platform. It is used to start some vertical bore holes from underground nuclear tests. |
