Disaster Recovery Center Operations Change on Oahu, Kaua'i

HONOLULU, Hawaii -- State and federal officials will re-open the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) on Kaua'i at the Kaua'i War Memorial Convention Hall Monday, May 22, to serve individuals and businesses impacted by the recent severe storms and flooding.

The DRC located at Kaua'i War Memorial Convention Hall, 4191 Hardy Street , Lihue , Hawaii , will be open May 22-26, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The DRC will be closed Wednesday, May 24.

Anyone who has suffered losses or damages as a result of the storms may go the DRC to follow up on their registration. Those affected by the disaster are urged to register for assistance first by calling toll-free 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. (local time), Monday through Friday. Registration can also be done online at www.fema.gov . Those who have questions may visit the center to meet with recovery specialists in person.

On Oahu, the Kualoa Ranch DRC will close on Friday, May 19, 2006 at the close of business, 8:00 p.m. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will open an SBA Outreach Center at this same location on Monday, May 22, 2006. This SBA Outreach Center, located at Kualoa Ranch, 49-560 Kamehameha Hwy , Kaaawa , Hawaii , will be open Mondays through Fridays, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. until further notice. SBA Customer Service Representatives will continue to provide individuals and business owners with assistance completing their loan applications, and answering their questions about the SBA disaster loan program.

A full-service DRC will remain open on Oahu at Kahala Mall as well. The DRC located at Kahala Mall, 4211 Waialae Ave., located in B7 (formerly Borders Express), Honolulu, Hawaii , will be open May 22-26, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 27, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Representatives of state, federal, and voluntary agencies are there with information and written materials about various assistance programs. SBA is there to issue and accept disaster loan applications from homeowners, renters, businesses and private non profits, as well as answer any questions regarding the SBA low interest disaster loans program.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became a part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
