Disaster Recovery Center To Open At Kahala Mall

HONOLULU , Hawaii -- State and federal officials will open a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) on Oahu at the Kahala Mall on Monday, May 15 to serve individuals and businesses impacted by the severe storms and flooding.

Anyone who has suffered losses or damages as a result of the storms may go the Disaster Recovery Center to follow up on their registration. Those affected by the disaster are urged to register for assistance first by calling toll-free 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired, from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. (local time) seven days a week . Registration can also be done online at www.fema.gov/assistance . Those who have questions may visit the center to meet with recovery specialists in person.

The DRC will be open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, May 15 to Friday, May 19, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 20.

Representatives of state, federal, and voluntary agencies, including Customer Service Representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), will be on hand to answer questions and provide recovery information. Written materials about various assistance programs are also available to individuals and business owners.

The DRC at Kualoa Ranch, 49-560 Kamehameha Highway , continues to operate. It will be open next week May 15-19, from 12 to 8 p.m.

The DRC located at the Kaua'i War Memorial Convention Hall will be closed the week of May 15-19.

The SBA's Kahala Mall Business Recovery Center is open Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became a part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
