SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- State and federal assistance to Californians affected by the December-January severe storms and flooding has reached more than $12 million, state and federal officials announced today.

As of March 15, more than 4,400 people have registered for federal and state assistance online at www.fema.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or (TTY) 1-800-462-7585. Both phone lines are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The last day to register is April 4, 2006

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster housing assistance grants totaling $4.1 million have been approved for 1,509 households in the 13 counties declared eligible for individual assistance. An additional $1.1 million in federal and state funding has been approved for 488 households to meet other disaster-related needs not covered by insurance or other sources.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved low-interest disaster loans totaling $7.1 million for homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes.

If you have been asked to supply FEMA with insurance information or to submit an SBA low interest disaster loan package, please do so quickly. The last day to register and submit such information is April 4, 2006. Those who don’t meet the deadline to submit the requested information may preclude themselves from receiving grant program funds.
