SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The assistance center in South Lake Tahoe will close March 15, but reopen in the same location as a Nevada County/South Lake Tahoe local assistance facility March 20 through 22, city, county, state and federal disaster recovery officials said today.

The assistance center in Placerville -- staffed by federal, state and local officials and by volunteer agencies -- will remain open from March 16 through March 25.

Assistance centers provide information and answers to questions from residents who registered for disaster assistance for damage suffered in the December-January flooding.

The facilities in El Dorado County are at:

Hours of operation for both facilities are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and closed on Sunday.

"Help with questions on federal and state disaster assistance is just a phone call away," said Federal Coordinating Officer Tom Davies of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

"Even if they've already reported their losses to local officials or to the Red Cross, homeowners, renters and business owners who want federal and state disaster assistance must register with FEMA by calling the toll-free numbers or online at www.fema.gov," said State Coordinating Officer Henry Renteria, director of the Governor's Office of Emergency Services. "We want to make sure everyone registers who may be eligible for assistance."
