A DOWNTOWN WILKES-BARRE POST OFFICE IS EXPECTED TO OPEN IN SEVERAL DAYS
WILKES-BARRE, P.A. - A downtown Wilkes-Barre post office is expected to open in the next several days after a temporary closure which began on November 26. Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (PA-11) intervened last Thursday, by meeting personally with Judy Lech, Wilkes-Barre Postmaster, and spoke by telephone to an owner of the building which leases space to the postal service, to urge a reconciliation of the issue. The Congressman continues to receive daily updates on the situation.
"The temporary closure of a post office in downtown Wilkes-Barre provides a difficult situation for many people and businesses in the downtown area," said Congressman Kanjorski. "Resolving the situation is necessary to prevent the temporary closure of a downtown post office from becoming permanent. Now, a post office is expected to open in the next few days."
The Postmaster will open a post office as quickly as possible in downtown Wilkes-Barre to serve the interests of the downtown business community while also ensuring that the post office is located in a building which is safe for postal employees and customers. The Congressman will continue to work closely with the Postmaster and her superiors to ensure this takes place.
