San Francisco, CA -- Federal, state, local and voluntary agencies are working in partnership to help Big Island residents following the recent storms and flooding. The following is a summary of ongoing response and recovery efforts for the week of December 18-22. State Civil Defense (SCD) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will update this information weekly.

Over 1,200 flood victims visited the Hilo Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) to seek information. The center closed last Friday, December 15.

Residents of the Big Island who were affected by the disaster may register for assistance until January 8, 2001, by calling the toll-free FEMA Teleregistration number, 1-800-462-9029. Speech- and hearing-impaired call 1-800-462-7585 (TTY). PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LINES WILL NOT BE IN SERVICE ON CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR'S DAY.
