CHAIRMAN BRADY ISSUES STATEMENT ON CAPITOL VISITOR CENTER OPENING DATE

Washington, DC (July 10, 2008) I am proud to be involved in preparations for the opening of the Capitol Visitor Center. Today, House and Senate leadership confirmed that the CVC will open December 2nd, 2008, the 145th anniversary of the completion of the Capitol dome.

The completion of the Capitol Visitor Center represents a significant accomplishment for the 110th Congress. Once opened, the Capitol Visitor Center will be an integral part of the U.S. Capitol complex. It will serve as a gateway for generations of Americans who visit the seat of their democracy and will assume its place of honor as a part of the "people's house."

This state of the art facility will serve as a tremendous educational tool, as well as creating a more safe and secure environment for millions of Capitol visitors. In concert with our counterparts in the Senate, the Committee on House Administration will work with the CVC management team in ensuring that the CVC significantly enhances the overall visitor experience.
