Some teenagers and young adults might overestimate how often they use condoms during sex, according to a study published recently in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, Reuters Health reports ( http://tinyurl.com/a38sh6 ). Eve Rose of Emory University and colleagues conducted the study among 715 black women and girls ages 15 to 21 who were enrolled in an HIV prevention program. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has announced the publication of a new research funding opportunity announcement (FOA) –RFA-PS-09-007 entitled “Evaluating Locally-Developed (Homegrown) HIV Prevention Interventions for African-American and Hispanic/Latino Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM) (U01).
This funding opportunity will support applicants in the United States that partner with a local community-based organization (CBO), including but not limited to AIDS service organizations or faith-based organizations, to implement and rigorously evaluate potentially effective but insufficiently evaluated HIV prevention interventions for
(A) high risk African-American men who have sex with men (MSM) or
(B) high-risk Hispanic/Latino MSM.
The intervention must have been developed by the CBO with substantial input from the served community, and may be referred to as a locally-developed or homegrown intervention.

The AIDS InfoNet is a project of the New Mexico AIDS Education and Training Center in the Infectious Diseases Division of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. The InfoNet was originally designed to make information on HIV/AIDS services and treatments easily accessible in both English and Spanish for residents of New Mexico. Its mission has expanded to that of providing HIV/AIDS treatment information in non-technical language in various languages. The primary audience for InfoNet materials includes people living with HIV and their caregivers, especially nurses and other first-line treatment providers. Through collaborative agreements with AIDS service organizations in various countries, the InfoNet is expanding the range of languages in which its materials are offered. It has increased the global reach of the InfoNet,by providing informaction in six languages: English, Spanish, Русский язык (Russian), Български (Bulgarian), Bahasa Indonesia and Nepali.
