Hoyer Statement on CHIP Legislation on House Floor Tomorrow

WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD) spoke this evening on the Children's Health Insurance Program legislation that will be on the House Floor tomorrow:

"Republicans and Democrats have worked very hard in a bipartisan way to come to agreement on a bill to insure 10 million children.

"We are bringing this bill to the Floor tomorrow because we still have much work to do before this becomes law and 10 million children are waiting.

"No one said during these negotiations that we were covering too many children. Instead we addressed the concerns raised by some Republicans regarding income, eligibility and coverage for adults.

"This legislation also does what the President promised to do in 2004 - cover children who are eligible but not included in the program.  So I hope and expect he will sign this bill.

"We hope that this bipartisan bill will receive overwhelming support from the House tomorrow, a strong vote in the Senate, and the President's signature."
