Kanjorski Announces $158,400 Awarded to American Fire Company
More than $7 Million in Federal Grants Awarded to Fire Companies in the 11th Congressional District Since the FIRE Grant Program Began
WASHINGTON - Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (PA-11) today announced that American Fire Company in Lansford has been awarded $158,400 for a new firefighting vehicle. The money is part of the Firefighter Investment and Response Enhancement (FIRE) grant program of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
"The role of our firefighters has become increasingly important as emergency first responders over the past few years. Because fire companies are finding it increasingly difficult to come up with much-needed funding, federal grants play an integral role in the day-to-day operations of our fire companies. We must be willing to provide the necessary funding so that the men and women who protect us have equipment that in turn protects them," Congressman Kanjorski said.
Joseph Greco, recording secretary for American Fire Company, expressed his gratitude to Congressman Kanjorski.
"We're glad to see our hard work - whether fighting fires or writing grants - pays off. This is excellent news, and we're very appreciative of Congressman Kanjorski," Secretary Greco said.
American Fire Company previously received a grant for $71,845 in 2002.
To date, 70 fire companies in the eleventh district have received FIRE grants.
