Chamberlain Manufacturing Receives $9.4 Million Contract Modification
Cumulative Total For Scranton Ammunition Plant Expected to Be $77 Million
WASHINGTON - Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (PA-11) and Congressman Don Sherwood (PA-10) today announced that Chamberlain Manufacturing Company was awarded a $9.4 million contract modification to produce metal parts for high-explosive ammunition for the United States Army.
"The M795 projectile is important ammunition for today's soldier, and the fact that the government has consistently awarded contracts to our Scranton plant contributing to its production is a complimentary statement about the men and women working there. This contract modification benefits our military and our area," Congressman Kanjorski said.
"The workforce at Chamberlain is an important part of our defense industrial base, with unmatched skills and experience in producing large caliber ammunition," Congressman Sherwood said. "This contract modification will make sure we have adequate inventories of M795 rounds, while preserving capabilities and keeping workers on the job at the Scranton plant."
The Scranton plant will produce metal parts for the M795, a high-explosive projectile that has longer range and greater efficiency than the M107, an alternate round. The M795 is used for conventional fire support, fragmentation, mining and blast effect.
The contract is expected to be completed in February 2007.
Chamberlain Manufacturing Corporation won a contract from the Army for $18.5 million for artillery ammunition in June 2004 and an additional $10.3 million contract in August 2004.
A total of 349 people are employed at the Scranton plant, which is a government-owned facility operated by the Chamberlain Manufacturing Corporation. All products are made at the Scranton facility.
