Kanjorski Announces $880,000 for Hazleton Area Transportation Projects
Hazle Township gets $480,000; $400,000 for Valmont Parkway

WASHINGTON - Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (PA-11) today announced that the Highway and Transportation bill passed by Congress Friday includes $880,000 for transportation projects in the Hazleton area. Hazle Township will receive $480,000 and the Valmont Industrial Parkway Project at Cranberry Creek is set to receive $400,000.

Congressman Kanjorski sought the funding for a connector road between Route 93 and Route 309 in Hazle Township and for a connector road between the Valmont Industrial Park and Pennsylvania Route 924 at Cranberry Creek.

"I am pleased that Congress has finally passed a transportation bill that is long overdue. These connector roads will provide a vital link between major roads in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Investing in our transportation infrastructure is essential for our nation's economy. Building and improving roads not only creates immediate construction jobs, but it allows for further development in our area," Congressman Kanjorski said.

State Rep. Todd Eachus (D-116) was grateful for Congressman Kanjorski's interest in the Hazle Township project. "I'm very proud to stand with Congressman Kanjorski in his support for additional funding for the connector road in Hazle Township. I am thankful to have worked closely with the Hazle Township Supervisors and the state, and I am glad to see that Congress has passed a bill they can put in front of the President. Let's hope for a quick signature so that the money can be dispersed for this project and throughout the state," Rep. Eachus said.

The Route 93 corridor will open up approximately 200-250 acres for development, and it has the potential to open an additional 100 acres of airport land owned by the City of Hazleton.

CAN DO President Kevin O'Donnell said he is extremely appreciative of Congressman Kanjorski's support for the Valmont Industrial Park/Cranberry Creek project. "The Congressman has been instrumental in helping to get funding for this project. The money will fund an access road into the property so development can begin," Mr. O'Donnell said.
