Kanjorski Announces $400,000 for Signs to Aid Tourism Industry in Monroe County
Delaware Water Gap, Pa. - Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (PA-11) today joined State Rep. John Siptroth, Sen. Lisa Boscola and representatives from the Pocono Mountain Vacation Bureau at the scenic overlook in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area to announce that the highway and transportation bill passed by Congress on July 29 includes $400,000 for wayfinding signage in Monroe County.
"I was pleased to have secured money for the wayfinding signage system in Monroe County in the long-awaited Transportation Bill. The money will provide customer-friendly signs that will provide tremendous help to the regional tourism market, which is the heart of the economy in the Poconos," Congressman Kanjorski said. "Because the majority of Pennsylvania's tourists travel by car, the new signage will make it much easier for people to reach their vacation destinations and spark interest in other area attractions as well."
The new sign system, known as wayfinding, provides a network of standardized directional signs that guide vacationing travelers to their destinations using a minimal amount of signs.
Mathilda Sheptak, deputy executive director of Pocono Mountain Vacation Bureau, is hopeful that the consistency of the signs will brand the area as the ‘Pocono Mountains.'
"We're very grateful to Congressman Kanjorski for securing these dollars so we can actually implement the wayfinding signage system, which will assist travelers as well as resident in finding their way to destinations and areas of interest," Ms. Sheptak said. "We hope this will improve visitors' services in the Pocono Mountains and provide cross-marketing throughout the four-county area."
