Kanjorski Announces More than $17,000 for Bulletproof Vests for Monroe County
More Than $41,000 for Entire 11th Congressional District
Wilkes-Barre, Pa. - Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (PA-11) today announced that three law enforcement agencies in Monroe County have been awarded more than $17,000 in grants for bulletproof vests through the federal Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) program.
"Our law enforcement officers in Northeastern Pennsylvania put their lives at risk every day for the people whom they serve. Our emergency personnel put themselves in danger without hesitation, so it is incumbent upon the federal government to provide much-needed funding for these life-saving vests," Congressman Kanjorski said.
The communities receiving $17,321.11 in grants are Monroe County, $14,548.61; Pocono Township, $201.50; and Pocono Mountain Regional, $2,571.
The Bureau of Justice Assistance administers the BVP program, which provides up to 50 percent of the cost of each vest. Since 1999, the federal government has offered more than $118 million in funding through this program.
