New TOXNET Manual

A new edition of the training manual used by Specialized Information Services (SIS) and the National Training Center and Clearinghouse for their TOXNET classes, is available at http://sis.nlm.nih.gov/manuals.html. It is available in either a PDF or Microsoft PowerPoint format. It is dated February 2006

The NLM Technical Bulletin-Kindling your curiosity

The NLM Technical Bulletin is created by the MEDLARS Management Section (MMS) of NLM. It is published bimonthly and the contents are not copyrighted and are freely reproducible.

The NLM Technical Bulletin is the source for the latest searching information and the source for PubMed system enhancements.

In the current issue (January-February 2006 which is in-process) available at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/pubs/techbull/current_issue.html information is available on a new Clinical Alert; a new neighborhood added to ToxTown; new animated tutorials for LinkOut for Libraries and a brief description and the web address for the new MeSH Video available on NLM’s web site. Readers will also discover new and changed Status Tags for PubMed Citations.

New Knowledge Path: Autism Spectrum Disorders

The MCH Library released a new knowledge path about autism spectrum disorders (ASD) identification and intervention. This electronic resource guide includes information on (and links to) Web sites, electronic and print publications, and databases containing resources about biomedical research into the causes of ASD; resources that address the communication, education, and vocational challenges associated with ASD; and resources about ASD’s impact on family life. Separate sections identify resources about ASD and environmental health research as well as those that address concerns about vaccines. The knowledge path is intended for use by health professionals, educators, researchers,

PubMed Subject Subset Strategies Updated

All PubMed subject subset strategies are reviewed at least once a year to check for possible revisions due to MeSH vocabulary changes, to add or delete terms, or to modify parts of the strategies. The following subset strategies were recently revised: Bioethics, Cancer, Complementary Medicine, Space Life Sciences, Toxicology. The Systematic Reviews subset was revised in December 2005.
