Josh Simpson Named TD Club Offensive Back of the Year
(December 5, 2008) RICHMOND, VA--The Touchdown Club of Richmond announced today that Hampden-Sydney senior running back Josh Simpson has been named the 2008 Virginia Offensive Back of the Year for NCAA Division II/III and NAIA. The 2008 first team All-ODAC honoree is the second consecutive Tiger to claim the honor, following in the footsteps of last season's recipient Drew Smith. Simpson led the Old Dominion Athletic Conference for the second straight season in rushing touchdowns (17), total touchdowns (19) and points scored (114) despite missing two games due to injury. He rushed for 858 yards and averaged 4.4 yards-per-carry for the year while also leading the team in receptions, with 49 for 595 yards. Simpson's stellar career is evident in his massive numbers; he finished his Hampden-Sydney career as the third all-time leading rusher with 3,278 yards and as the ODAC all-time leader in rushing touchdowns (59), total touchdowns (71) and points (432). more...

Ten Football Tigers Named All-ODAC
(November 25, 2008) RICHMOND, VA--After a successful season that witnessed Hampden-Sydney's football Tigers earn a share of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title, the Tigers placed ten players on the 2008 All-ODAC team. Senior tailback Josh Simpson, junior linebacker Josh Miller and freshman center Ben Rogers were the three Tigers to earn first team nods. Five Tigers were named to the All-ODAC second team, including senior quarterback Corey Sedlar, junior wide receiver Adam Gillette, senior defensive lineman Sam Rosten, junior safety Bill Doody and senior placekicker T.C. Stevens. Hampden-Sydney's honorable mention honorees were seniors Andrew Sellers and Travis Wertz. more...

R-MC Storms Back to Upset Tigers, Earns ODAC Title
(November 15, 2008) HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA--H-SC senior signal caller Corey Sedlar threw for 401 yards and two touchdowns and classmate Josh Simpson caught 12 passes for 114 yards and ran for a 16-yard score, but visiting Randolph-Macon (6-4, 4-2 ODAC) scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to rally from a 21-10 deficit and stun the Tigers, 31-21 on Senior Day. The Jackets' win coupled with Bridgewater's surprising upset of former ODAC leader Catholic University, gives R-MC its first league crown in nearly a decade. After falling behind 10-7 early in the third quarter, Hampden-Sydney (8-2, 4-2 ODAC) used a Sedlar to Adam Gillette 39-yard strike to take a 14-10 lead, then extended that advantage to 21-10 after Simpson's 16-yard scamper with 1:29 to play in the third period. But Macon reserve tailback Steve Matthews rumbled for two scores in the final 15 minutes, his second putting the Jackets up 24-21 with just 2:14 to play, and defensive end Tristan Carr sacked Sedlar and forced a fumble on the Tigers' final drive of the game, picking up the loose ball and sprinting 65 yards for the clinching score with 57 seconds to play. Josh Miller had a monster day at linebacker for the Tigers, with 16 total tackles, while Trevor Ikwild notched an interception. The Tigers outgained the Jackets 424-346 on the afternoon, but Macon made it count on the ground, out-rushing H-SC 158-23 en route to the win.

H-SC's Corey Sedlar completed 35-of-52 passes for 489 yards and four touchdowns as the Tigers ended Huntingdon's undefeated run with a 38-34 win Saturday.
Sedlar, Sellers Lead Tigers Past Huntingdon
(November 8, 2008) MONTGOMERY, AL--Needing to bounce back after a tough conference loss two weeks ago, and with star running back Josh Simpson still hampered by a nagging injury, Hampden-Sydney's football team turned to two of its captains, senior quarterback Corey Sedlar and junior linebacker Andrew Sellers. It's safe to say that both delivered on Saturday. Behind Sedlar's 489 yards and four touchdowns through the air and Sellers' game-high 14 tackles, Hampden-Sydney (8-1) earned a satisfying 38-34 conference win over previously unbeaten Huntingdon College (8-1) in balmy Montgomery, Alabama. more...
