Washington, DC–Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) today released the following statement in response to President-elect Barack Obama’s economic speech:
“Minnesota families, and families across America, are struggling under the weight of the current economic crisis. In his remarks today at GeorgeMasonUniversity in Virginia, President-elect Barack Obama sent a strong message that he understands the gravity of the situation and is prepared to act. In the upcoming weeks, Congress needs to stand with President -elect Obama and the American people and quickly pass an economic recovery package that will put our citizens back to work by creating millions of jobs.
“In addition to jobs, Democrats and Republicans in Congress must act quickly to halt the high rates of foreclosures by helping families stay in their homes and preventing neighborhoods from deteriorating as a result of the mortgage meltdown. We all have a stake in keeping families secure and safe in their homes.”
