Abstract

Driven by mounting fuel costs, heightened sensitivities to climate change, and rising worries over indoor air quality, a movement is afoot to make green homes the norm. One aspect of green homebuilding in particular–increased energy efficiency–is enjoying a swell of support in the form of incentives offered by utility companies, private organizations, and government agencies. A few obstacles to energy-efficient homebuilding remain in the form of zoning and homeowners' association regulations, but initiatives now under way seek to surmount these challenges.
