For years, people have complained of symptoms they believe have been brought on by poor indoor air quality. Now a new type of heating and air conditioning system known as a dedicated outdoor air system promises to improve indoor air quality and comfort, as well as lower purchase and operating costs. The new design, which separates the temperature control and ventilation systems that are bound together in most existing models, could help builders and property owners construct new systems or bring existing ones up to ventilation codes that have been recently revised to require greater flow of outdoor air into rooms.
