The Vanadium Advantage: Flow Batteries Put Wind Energy in the Bank David C. Holzman Abstract Raising wind power to a significant contributor to the world’s energy supply will require options for storing wind-generated power, given the intermittent nature of this natural resource. One possible solution is the vanadium redox-flow battery (VRB) . VRBs have several advantages over other conventional energy storage technologies, including an environmentally sound premise and greater longevity. Several successful VRB projects already in operation around the world are paving the way for increased use of wind and other niche energy sources.
