Recycling Poultry Feathers: More Bang For The Cluck Victoria McGovern Abstract Scientists are investigating ways to process chicken feathers that may turn the poultry industry's waste product into valuable consumer goods, saving trees and replacing man-made materials in the process. Processed chickens yield billions of pounds of feathers each year. Now, through innovative new technologies that sort out the useful parts of the feather and enzymatically degrade the raw material, the protein-based feathers can be processed into materials to make a variety of products, from diapers to clear film to animal feed.
