Rooting Out Invasive Species: Lessons from Down Under Rooting Out Invasive Species: Lessons from Down Under

Abstract

Australia and New Zealand, with their unique ecosystems and significant agricultural sectors that are exceptionally vulnerable to the ravages of invasive species, have instituted strict biosecurity measures. These efforts include programs to eradicate noxious plants and monitor the spread of disease-carrying mosquitoes from other countries. Accomplishments Down Under can offer important lessons to any other country that must confront the combined impact of rising volumes of international trade and shifting patterns of climate.
