We have news about Pat Auflick, Marie Carter, Melissa Just, Frieda Ling, Katherine Salkanovic, David Shaul, and Judy Thompson.

Pat Auflick, Arizona Health Sciences Library, was busy at the Arizona Library Association conference in November 2006. She presented a paper called “What’s a health reference interview and health information literacy got to do with it?” Pat and colleague Joan Clark from the Arizona State Library co-authored a paper “Providing access to health and wellness information: who can you trust?”

Karen Vogel reports that she’s had some staffing changes at the Health Care Sciences Library of the VA Long Beach Health Care System. In July, Marie Carter has assumed the position of Medical librarian, replacing Tom Hanson who retired in December.

Melissa Just has been hired as the Director of the Lee Graff Medical & Scientific Library at the City of Hope National Medical Center & Beckman Research Institute, starting her position on December 1, 2006.

Frieda Ling of the Glendale Public Library, Glendale, Arizona has retired in order to become a full time therapist. Frieda received an NCLS Award for Operation Health Outreach, a project to improve access to health information for the Hispanic population in Glendale, Arizona.

Katherine Salkanovic is now the Resource Center Coordinator of the Nevada Cancer Institute replacing Danette Tull who has assumed a new position in the organization.

Dr. David Shaul of Venito Garcia Library and Archives in Sells, Arizona, has received a fund award from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to provide a bookmobile for use on the Tohono O’odham Nation (TON), an area encompassing 2.8 million acres, equal in size to the state of Connecticut. The bookmobile services will bring literacy and educational programming to the remote communities through collaboration with the Friends of the Tohono O’odham Libraries, the district offices and recreation centers where the bookmobile will stop, TON Division of Early Childhood Education, and the Tohono O’odham Community College. Judy Thompson joined the staff of King Drew Health Sciences Library on September 18, 2006. Judy was formerly Director of the Medical Library at California Medical Center Los Angeles.
