Funding Mechanisms Extend our Reach

NN/LM PSR will use a variety of mechanisms to leverage our funding and outreach throughout the region during the 2006–2011 contract period. These include Express Outreach Awards, Internet Connectivity awards, the Library Improvement Program, and MedlinePlus Go Local awards. In the 2001–2006 contract, the efforts of subcontractors reached 72% of our outreach audience. In making awards, we try to fund activities in each state and jurisdiction of the region, adjusting the level according to population needs in those areas. Projects are generally completed within 12 months after the award.

The National Library of Medicine has reappointed the UCLA Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library as Regional Medical Library for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Pacific Southwest Region (NN/LM PSR). You’ve heard the song and — if you’re of a certain age — you’ve probably seen the show “Here Come the Brides” which aired from 1968-1970. But did you know the show was based on real events?

The “Mercer Girls”, eligible young women from New England, were brought to Seattle in 1864 by Asa Mercer to be teachers and prospective brides for early Northwest settlers. (more…)
