Recent Training from Your RML

The PSR staff has provided a number of training sessions in Arizona and California in January and February. Through the National Training Center and Clearinghouse, we taught the three-hour PubMed for Experts class. There were 21 attendees. With MLGSCA, Kay Deeney along with Karen Heskett of UCSD taught eXtreme Searching: Getting the Most from PubMed & Google in San Diego, California, and Phoenix, Arizona. Karen taught the Google part of the class. At the end of January, Kelli Ham taught two sessions of the Prescription for Success class for Orange County Public Library.

Kay and Kelli also went to Tempe, Arizona, to teach the ¿No Comprende? Spanish Health Information Resources for English Speaking Librarians workshop for the Transborder Library Forum at Arizona State University.

Upcoming classes include a new class which will be taught by Kelli Ham on February 28, From Anecdote to Evidence: Complementary and Alternative Medicine and the Challenge for Librarians in Rancho Cucamonga, California, three PubMed for Experts classes in various locations and another session of Prescription for Success in Santa Clara County on March 8. Two sessions of Introduction to PubMed Plus will be held at Shasta College on April 20. Attendees will include Shasta College nursing faculty and students, as well as Shasta College librarians. Several public librarians from the community may also attend.

Please visit our Training and Exhibits calendar for a schedule of classes; consult the list of available classes for course descriptions.

The PSR staff is available to teach classes and workshops highlighting NLM and NN/LM databases and services to groups. While we don’t teach classes for the staff at a single institution, if a group of librarians or health professionals in a locale want to request training, we are available.

In order for us to teach at your location, your institution or organization needs to provide the following:

  • a computer lab with individual workstations for 1-2 attendees each
  • an instructor workstation
  • a minimum of 10 attendees

If you want to request training or if you have any questions, please contact Kay Deeney, NN/LM PSR Education Coordinator.
