Services for Libraries and Library Managers pdf icon

NN/LM PSR Fact Sheet

Headquarters for the Pacific Southwest Region of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) is at the UCLA Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library. The Network is administered under contract to the National Library of Medicine (NLM). The Pacific Southwest Region includes the states of Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, and the US-Associated Pacific Basin.

Making biomedical information available to health professionals and enhancing access to quality health information for the public are primary goals of the NN/LM PSR. To achieve this goal, NN/LM PSR staff coordinate a number of information services, working with twelve Resource Libraries and over 600 member libraries and information centers in the Region. The NN/LM PSR also provides some services directly to health professionals.

For libraries and library managers in the region, NN/LM PSR staff:

  • Advise libraries on funding sources available through NN/LM PSR and NLM;
  • Provide training and assistance to libraries in using NLM's resources and services;
  • Provide regional access to online training classes in searching NLM databases offered by the National Training Center and Clearinghouse staff and by NN/LM PSR staff.
  • Support library participation in DOCLINE, NLM's automated interlibrary loan request and referral system, through free training and telephone consultation;
  • Provide training and assistance with updating regional serials holdings in DOCLINE to enable better sharing of resources;
  • Work with libraries developing consortia and informal groups to share resources and expertise;
  • Offer training and updates for institutions serving as Loansome Doc libraries;
  • Provide information to health professionals and the general public on services offered by libraries in the region;
