ST LOUIS, Mo. -- Are you a victim of the early April severe storms and floods that ravaged Madison County Missouri? Have you applied for disaster assistance? Do you have questions about your application?
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has opened a disaster information Helpline to provide information on state and federal assistance programs and to advise people, who have applied, on the status of their applications. The toll-free Helpline number is 1-800-525-0321. Persons with hearing-or speech-impairments may call (TTY) 1-800-660-8005. The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Representatives of FEMA and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) are strongly encouraging people with questions about disaster assistance to call the Helpline.
"Disaster victims can learn more about housing assistance programs, grants, loans, and other programs when they phone the Helpline," said Curt Musgrave FEMA federal coordinating officer for this disaster. "The Helpline professionals will answer questions about individual applications, explain FEMA programs and make referrals to other agencies."
The disaster designation for Madison County makes federal funds available to assist victims in recovering from the storms of April 3 through 14. The declaration allows residents, business owners, farmers and ranchers in the county to apply for state and federal disaster assistance programs.
