» More Information on Missouri Severe Storms and Flooding

ST LOUIS, Mo. -- A toll-free disaster assistance teleregistration line and a Disaster Recovery Center in Madison County, Missouri, are changing days of operation, effective Wednesday, May 5.

The federal/state registration number for persons in Madison County who were affected by severe storms and floods in early April, now will operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The line previously was open on Saturdays as well but is being downsized to five days a week.

The registration number, 1-800-462-9029, is the first step for residents and business owners who need to access state and federal disaster assistance because of severe storms and flooding that occurred from April 3 through 14. Persons who are hearing-or speech-impaired can call (TTY) 1-800-5462-7585.

"We've already gotten a strong response from disaster victims throughout Madison County so we think that these new hours provide plenty of opportunity for those who haven't called to register," said Carol Coleman, federal coordinating officer for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The federal/state Disaster Recovery Center, located at 104 Armory St. in Fredericktown, also is downsizing to five days a week. Hours and days of operation now are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

"We hope residents and business owners who were affected by the storms will take advantage of the experienced staff at the Disaster Recovery Center," said Jerry Uhlmann, director of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). "They really can be a big help in providing more information about programs."

The center provides a face-to-face opportunity for residents and business owners who have applied for assistance to get additional information on disaster recovery, to check on the status of their applications and to learn how to reduce future damages. The center is staffed by representatives from FEMA, SEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and other local, state, federal and voluntary agencies.
