Northeast High-Level Radioactive Waste Transportation Project

The Northeast High-Level Radioactive Waste Transportation Project was founded in 1994 by the Council of State Governments – Eastern Regional Conference (CSG-ERC) to facilitate communication between the federal government and state officials from the Northeast about federal nuclear waste shipments. The Project is funded through cooperative agreements with the US Department of Energy (DOE). One of the Project’s primary purposes is to establish and support a Task Force of representatives from ten Northeastern states.

The mission of the Task Force is to ensure that the federal government considers and acts on the views and needs of the Northeast for the transportation of commercial Spent Nuclear Fuel (SNF) and other high-level radioactive wastes.
