Jordan Named to Third House Committee

Washington, DC--Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) has been selected by his colleagues to serve on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

“This is an exciting development, giving me an opportunity to play a bigger role in the legislative oversight functions of Congress,” said Jordan.  “I expect that we will examine some of the highest profile issues being considered by Congress.”

This assignment comes in addition to Jordan’s current positions on the House Judiciary and Small Business Committees.  He joins fellow Ohioan Michael R. Turner (R-Centerville) and 16 other Republicans on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Traditionally, the Committee’s jurisdiction has included oversight of the federal workforce, the District of Columbia, the National Guard, and the Census.

Current Chairman Henry Waxman (D-California) recently expanded the Committee’s investigatory role into such areas as steroid use, White House e-mails, state gun laws, and Iraqi reconstruction.

Chairman Waxman also made news recently, issuing a subpoena to compel testimony from Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
