I understand that collection agencies have the right to try to collect debts by phoning; however, I feel that the automated call system used by these organizations is unfair - as I have received numerous automated calls asking that I call a certain number only to find that they have the wrong person/wrong number. This is an invasion of my privacy. I consider my telephone an instrument for my convenience or necessity, and I do not feel that it should be abused by someone that is not paying my phone bill. Just tonight I got an automated call from NCO Financial Assistance for an Arthur Wright. I have had this telephon number and lived at my present address for four years. If I do not respond to the automated calls, then they just keep calling. This is especially disturbing as my wife works at home and I am disabled. Another collection company used to call for a Michael Jones and I had to respond to that automated call - they would promise to take me off their list and then within two months they would start calling again. For people with common last names this can be very inconvenient. I feel that these companies are just automatically calling all debtors with the same last name in the phone book. THIS IS TOTALLY UNFAIR AND AN ABUSE OF THE RIGHT GRANTED THEM TO TELEPHONE LEGITIMATE DEBTORS.
