I'm sorry to add yet another e-mail to everyone's in box, but I have to
express how nice it is for Ceci and Len to agree to coordinate
responses. I was surprised when folks started simply replying that they
were willing to help - instead of contacting places themselves
(especially after suggested agencies were listed). I think it was clear
that the Doaks' original intent was to find out if others were doing
anything and to get ideas of how to help and to suggest that others
consider helping.

Dear NIFL List-Surv,

Here is where we stand with our offers to help provide/rewrite
easy-to-understand health related messages for the Katrina victims.

- 15 people and organizations have offered to help in this volunteer
ad-hoc
activity. Among these are Ruth Parker at Emory in Atlanta, Terry Davis
at
LSU, and two Canadian organizations and many other experts.

-  We have revised (simplified and added visuals) one emergency piece;
a one
page instruction on tips for staying healthy in a shelter.

- Ceci and I have been invited by some of the respondents to
coordinate
responses, and although that was not our original intention, have
agreed to do
this for the next four weeks. But if you see a need somewhere, please
go right
ahead and fill it.

- CDC (The Center for Disease Control, Atlanta) will probably invite
us to
review and revise some materials for use with Katrina (and future)
victims.
Other organizations may follow, but no requests so far.

You will receive more information shortly.

thank you and best wishes ,

Ceci and Len Doak
Patient Learning Assoc.
