The international family planning community has been using TV dramas and
such for education for a long time and some peer-reviewed research has been
done on these media.

The POPLINE database http://db.jhuccp.org/popinform/basic.html , which is
also available via the NLM's PubMed, contains research articles on
'entertainment education' that may include what you are looking for, just
not under the name of photonovella or fotonovella.

Let us know what you find!

The NYC Dept of Health used fotonovelas for HIV/AIDS info * for subway car
cards.

I think the American Diabetes Association (ADA) has used these in their
outreach materials to the Latino community. I think this format has also
been used for dissemination of AIDS information, but I'm not sure what
research was used to support its efficacy or justify the use of that
format.Perhaps the ADA can help.

Several of us are preparing a paper on the efficacy of visuals in patient
education. Our question is: What research or practice has been published
on the use of Photonovellas?

We would appreciate any information.
