Pelosi: Head Start Bill Will Ensure More Children Arrive at School Ready to Learn and Ready to Succeed
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following
statement this afternoon after the House voted 381 to 36 to pass the joint
House-Senate conference report on H.R. 1429, Improving Head Start for School
Readiness Act, which will reinvigorate Head Start and help more children arrive
at school ready to succeed:
“A top priority of the New Direction Congress is giving our
children all the tools they need to succeed.
Central to that mission is making certain our federal policies on
children reflect the latest scientific developments.
“With that in mind, in May, we convened the National Summit
on
“Today, we are putting those findings into action, by
passing the conference report for the Improving Head Start for School Readiness
Act. It builds on success of Head Start
by focusing on the best science to improve this critical initiative.
“I am especially proud of the efforts in this conference
report to expand access to Early Head Start so that more infants and toddlers
can attend Head Start during the years their brains are growing the most
quickly. Expanding access will ensure that
more children arrive at school ready to learn and ready to succeed. Investments in our children, such as these,
will ensure our nation is strong for generations to come."
