[Technology 1402] All Digital TV Broadcasts in 2009

Dear technology list colleagues,

As many of you may already know, beginning in February 2009 (yes, well
over a year away) the US Congress has mandated the conversion to an all
digital television broadcast system. New TVs sold in the US are required
to have integrated digital tuners, but older models may be analog only
and require a converter. Why I'm writing this message now is because the
National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) is
administering a coupon program between January 1, 2008, and March 31,
2009, that entitles all U.S. households to request up to two coupons,
worth $40 each, to be used toward the purchase of eligible
digital-to-analog converter boxes. Please share this information with
your adult literacy students and the communities you work in. More
information about the digital conversion and the coupon program can be
found on the FCC website:
http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/digitaltv.html

Mariann
