Is your screening process published or available for distribution; ditto for the training of screeners? This is exciting stuff; I trust other states and programs will benefit from your innovative processes and trainings. This training was modeled on the California Eligibility Model and adds a sign off by a licensed psychologist. Trainings facilitated by learning specialists for faculty on universal design, memory strategies, study strategies, etc. What we dont have in Washington is state policy that funds these positions on a regular basis within our community colleges where our ABE programs reside. This is where we are stuck. What we have learned is that the issue cant be changed unless we approach it systemically and state wide. We have also learned that the issue is broader than providing assistance for ABE students it is about providing assistance for all adults who need help. The Department of Education Grant on Universal Design Learning in Washington at Renton Technical College in its fifth year has also provided a big picture change in the way we are able to work with all students.
