Cadet Life
After Graduation

All cadets who graduate are commissioned as Ensigns in the United States Coast Guard, and most are assigned to ships as Deck Watch Officers or Engineers in Training for their first two-year tour. There is no need for sending out resumes or going on job interviews!

Can you imagine standing the navigation watch on the bridge of a state-of-the-art Coast Guard Cutter as you and your crew ply the deep waters of the sea, searching for drug smugglers and people in distress? Check out our current fleet of ships and aircraft that you would be working on everyday (Current Fleet), as well as the modern fleet of cutters and aircraft that will shape the Coast Guard of the near future and beyond (Future Fleet).

Suffice it to say, professional growth opportunities abound as a junior officer on a ship. You will lead the men and women of the Coast Guard in conducting exciting missions, be responsible for the safety of the ship and crew, and make port calls to exotic foreign and domestic ports.

Your choice of opportunities that follow your first tour afloat include applying for Advanced Degree Programs paid for by the Coast Guard. You may also apply for Flight School and become a member of our elite community of aviators. All the while you will be earning excellent pay and benefits, including full medical/dental and shopping privileges on military bases worldwide.

Check back soon for biographies of distinguished alumni to read the stories of those who have gone before!
